TECHNICAL SERVICE SCOPE

Substation, Distribution Centre and Switchyard Design

Coordinated single-line diagrams, equipment schedules, layouts, foundations and calculation packages for substations, switchyards and MV/LV distribution systems.

01 / SCOPE

What does the service cover?

Substations and switchyards

Primary equipment, steelwork, foundations, control buildings and GIS arrangements.

Distribution centres and MV/LV networks

Distribution transformers, switchgear, panels, loads, protection and compensation calculations.

02 / TECHNICAL CONTENT

Drawings, calculations and deliverables

Electrical single-line diagram

A single-line diagram showing connections, primary equipment selected from short-circuit calculations, metering and protection systems.

Primary equipment schedule

A primary equipment schedule identifying switchgear types and device numbers, within or alongside the single-line diagram.

General site plan

A general site plan at a suitable scale showing substation and switchyard coordinates.

Substation and switchyard layouts

Layouts of the facilities within the substation and switchyard.

Steelwork and foundation drawings

Steelwork and switchgear, transformer and gantry foundation drawings where standard designs are not used.

Cable duct drawings

Installation drawings for underground power cables and cable ducts within the switchyard.

Earthing and internal earthing

Earthing plans and connection details for substations and switchyards, including internal earthing.

GIS hall layout and sections

GIS hall layouts and sections for gas-insulated switchyards.

36 kV control building drawings

Architectural plans, switchgear layouts and sections for the 36 kV control building where applicable to the transformer arrangement.

Protection drawings

Lightning protection, fire protection and security system drawings.

Distribution: Facility information form

Existing and proposed network data, project rationale, general/technical facility description and the basis for project-specific calculations.

Distribution: MV/LV single-line diagrams

Transformer types, numbers, names and ratings; line/cable sizes and lengths, normally open devices, power-flow direction and primary equipment based on fault levels; LV metering, protection, breaker characteristics and interlocks.

Distribution: Primary equipment schedule

A primary equipment schedule listing switchgear types and device numbers within or alongside the single-line diagram.

Distribution: Switchgear layout plans

Transformer, MV equipment and LV panel layouts with line entries/exits on building plans at 1/50, 1/75 or 1/100.

Distribution: Short-circuit calculations

MV/LV short-circuit calculations from the relevant supply substation and distribution transformer as the basis for equipment selection.

Distribution: MV voltage drop, losses and thermal checks

Relative voltage drop and power loss across the MV network considering all loads, with conductor current-carrying capacity checks.

Distribution: Transformer rating calculations

Transformer rating calculations based on connected load and the simultaneity factor.

Distribution: LV voltage drop, losses and thermal checks

Relative voltage drop and power loss across the LV network considering all loads, with conductor current-carrying capacity checks.

Distribution: LV reactive compensation calculations

Reactive compensation calculations considering demand and harmonics to achieve the target power factor on the secondary circuit.

03 / WORKING PROCESS

Technical support from data to implementation

  1. Review design inputs

Review available design, connection, field or cadastral information against the scope.

  2. Prepare the technical package

Coordinate the drawings, calculations and schedules for the service.

  3. Institutional submission and technical follow-up

Submit the package to the relevant institution and follow its technical review.

Let’s assess the technical needs of your project.
